The Rockhurst men's tennis team suffered a 5-3 loss to Ferris State in a first-round match in the NCAA Midwest Regional Saturday in Evansville, Ind.

The 45th-ranked Hawks end their season with a 13-8 record. Ferris State, 16-5, will meet top-seeded Southern Indiana on Sunday.

Fourth-seeded Ferris State clinched the victory by capturing No. 6 singles. Rockhurst, seeded No. 5, won three singles matches to pull within 4-3 of Ferris State. Rodolfo Gauto-Mariotti won in No. 1 singles in three sets. Yassir El Ghazi also went thee sets to win in No. 2 singles. Pawel Grzegrzolka won in two sets in No. 4 singles. Ferris State swept the three doubles matches.
